Polishing Aluminum For Solar Cooking

Posted by carrie_roll

I used these aluminum sheets for reflective panels with the solar cooking we’ve done. Carrie got these aluminum sheets for free from Pioneer Printing Press (where she used to work). They were completely free as this were the printing plates they misprinted and couldn’t use. If you can find a printing company in your area, it’s likely they will have large sheets of aluminum like this as well, and you can use them to make your own solar cooker.

MacRumpton posted this comment over at the YouTube video, and I thought I would post it here for everyone in GreenJoyment to read.

it helps to use a buffing disk with a drill. I am pretty sure that toothpaste (white, not gel type) would also work for the rubbing compound. Finally if you go to Home Depot or Lowes and look for “aluminum flashing” you will find rolls of aluminum similar in thickness to a printing plate. I have seen 10″ and 20″ wide rolls that are 10′ and longer, and it is usually about $1/square foot.
