Do whatever is doable for you. Whether it’s buying recycled toothbrushes or shopping at a local organic fruit market or changing the light bulbs. Taking tiny steps can help in a huge way. Celeb’s putting their green into being green. Find out what they do.


Oprah: Oprah is hanging her O in gOing green.
Oprah may be busy with her talk show, magazine, book club and charity work but she is also using her celebrity spotlight to shine on green issues. On Earth Day The Oprah Winfrey Show hosted “Going Green” with Simran Sethi from TreeHugger on just how easy it can be to go green with tips on recycling, green cleaning and what was called “having a real lightbulb” moment: switching to energy efficient bulbs. Oprah added the easy to follow tips to her web site too. She brought on Matt Damon and Sheryl Crow as well to talk about why it’s cool to be green.
Oprah didn’t stop there. She’s using the popularity of her book club to get out the message. Oprah’s book club featured “The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time” which includes a foreward by Cameron Diaz and William McDonough. Jennifer Aniston, Robert Redford, Will Ferrell and Tyra Banks all made contributions to this green guide.
Brad Pitt: Brad the Going Green Dad
Brad Pitt has housing on his mind and it is not just housing for him, Angelina and their six children. Brad Pitt is involved in Make It Right, an eco-friendly housing project that has begun in New Orleans. He commissioned over a dozen of the world’s top architects to design green sustainable housing. The first of the 150 scheduled to be built has been completed.
Brad Pitt has teamed up with Kiehl’s to support their new Aloe Vera body cleanser. He’s using clean to support green. For his endorsement the net profits will go to the foundation.
A picture may be worth a thousand words but a picture of Brad and Angelina’s twins was worth $15 million dollars. The eco-conscious couple is donating the money to charity and Brad’s friend George Clooney is pitching in too.

George Clooney has already donated $300 thousand to Make It Right and he says he wants to invest more. According to Clooney, “Brad went there, builds houses…he can do a lot of other things with his time. He and Angie really put their money where their mouth is.”
Miley Cyrus: Going the Green Mile
Miley Cyrus, the Hannah Montana star, is serving up her own music on stage and she’s singing green. In her new eco-friendly song, “Wake Up America,” Miley’s trying to get her young teen audience to think green. She’s followed it up with a You Tube video she and her friend Mandy shot in her bedroom to remind fans to unplug their cell phones, avoid aerosol cans and recycle their magazines.
Kerry Washington: Sustainable is Attainable
Kerry Washington, actress, singer and director, is going in the green direction. When she directed rapper Common’s Video “Want You” she demanded biodegradable eating utensils on the set. In Harlem, she developed a green apartment building and her driver’s drive Hybrid cars. Washington is collaborating with Sustainable South Bronx founder, Majora Carter to spread the message about environmental injustices like waste sites and hazardous chemical plants in neighborhoods of people of color.
Washington says. “I don’t want to be a hypocrite, but I’m not giving up my hair dryer. Do whatever is doable for you. Whether it’s buying recycled toothbrushes or shopping at a local organic fruit market or changing the light bulbs. Taking tiny steps can help in a huge way.”
Joshua Jackson: Grown Up and Greening Up
Joshua Jackson, former “Dawson’s Creek” cutie is not just starring in “The Fringe.” He is using his star power to get to the show’s cast and crew to go green. He says that production trucks for the show are run on blended bio-fuel and that he never wastes paper to print out scripts.
“I actually have all my scripts sent to my I-pod and/or computer. It’s the first show I’ve worked on that does this,” says Jackson.
Some big celebrities are making big green statements. Even small steps can make a big impact, especially when the steps are star-studded and so many fans will want will to follow in their footprints.
