Any reusable bag is greener than plastic or paper grocery bags but some are greener and more durable than others. Here's a comparison of 9 versions of reusable grocery bags sold at grocery stores and what's in the bag for your buck.
In 2007 the Environmental Protection Agency noted that 3.8 million tons of plastic bags and wrap and 72,000 tons of paper bags ended up as waste in landfills. There is a green swing towards reusable bags but too often paper and plastic are still making the "home run."

Hi Lisa, it sure takes time for people to change their habits. Some change soon. Some take a bit longer. And some don't change at all. Sometimes the majority of them tend to fit the last category. It is sure frustrating for those of us who are more conscious of the environment and are making changes to make it a better place to live in. how can i get help paying for solar panels i am on a fixed income, ssi right now my eletric is running about 400 a month.
It is tough changing the plastic bag habit. One thing I have started doing to help others is to use a tote bag to wrap gifts in. Wherever I purchase the gift I purchase the tote bag too, it helps them get some more bags (or their first) and acts as the wrapping paper for the gift. Less muss, less fuss. Everyone is loving the idea and asked to borrow it so I am glad it's working!
