I bought one of these about a year ago for an emergency kit, along with a Duracell Mobile Charger and some rechargeable AAs. This combination has been fantastic for me! I make sure everything in my kit runs AAs, (or cranks, or is solar itself). With this combo, I can charge pretty much anything that holds it own charge or that takes AAs or AAAs. The Sunforce folds to about the size of an average hardcover book and is about the same weight. I have used it on sunny days, but have not tested its ability to charge on very cloudy or rainy days. I have used it hiking and it does an excellent job, just unroll it and attach it to the back of a pack so it can charge your stuff / batteries while you hike. It comes with a number of adapters so you can hook your electronics to it directly. I like it so much I am buying a second one so I don't keep robbing my e-kit for this one. For me, this is very convenient and so far has done exactly what its supposed to. For that reason I give it 5 stars, and will buy another. However, it tells you in the manual that it is possible to break this thing if you fold it incorrectly, and I can imagine a wire pulling out or a 100 other ways it might break. Therefore, if you are in a situation where you MUST have power (like one poor reviewer - stuck in the middle of the woods with no GPS when his Sunforce quit!) I would suggest you always have a backup plan.

I finally got to try this thing out after having it for two months.
Hiked four miles into a lake using my new PN-40se gps, spent the night and the next morning I plugged the gps in to charge it, everything looked to be going well so I let it charge for about 15 minutes and re-checked it only to find the screen blank (as it was on when I started) so I unplugged and tried to turn it on, and nothing. Very unhappy!.
When I got back to the truck I found the gps still worked if I put regular battery's in it, so it ruined my brand new rechargeable batts.
Be warned (check it out before you go!)

I got this to charge my various electronic devices i take camping with me. This solar charger works great. I was able to charge my ipod touch in a hour and a half. My cell phone in 3 hours and my portable speaker ran non stop for 5 days. I would charge it during the day and run it on the battery during the night.

It rained one day while i was gone hiking and it didn't bother the solar panels at all. I wiped them off and went back to charging things. The main reason i chose this model is for its durability, flexibility and folding to a small size. It has more than lived up to those three things.

This panel comes with almost every accessory in the accessory kit, but the description on Amazon wasn't clear. I'm returning the accessory kit today.

This little panel is pretty nice. It is a little on the 'cheap' feeling side, but it works well and looks to be durable enough although I have not done more than basic testing yet. I have yet to decide whether I would have bought it for $80 if i saw it in the store. I'm a solid 'maybe' on it still. I might have bought this one instead: Powerfilm Usb Aa Solar Panel Charger

I often go Gold & Gemstone hunting and use quite a bit of 12volt equipment, including a forgotten 12v cooler plugged into the dash. Upon leaving the car for a day to prospect a small stream, the cooler drained our battery dead. We returned with only about 2 hours of daylight left, found the battery dead and I immediately removed the charger from my backpack and began charging the battery with direct sunlight. As the sun was setting we "tried it" and there was just enough charge to start us up and we drove the 12 miles out of the forest instead of having to walk it out for help.
Not only does the product work, but it has changed the way I think about solar energy. Needless to say, since it saved us that day in the forest, I am rating this product with 5 stars.

The lightweight compact size makes it very convertible. We bought it to keep the battery on our sailboat topped up. Start out with a fully charged battery and it will maintain. However, if you put a serious draw on the battery and run it down it will take days to recharge it. Easy to carry and keep any electronic equipment charged while out in the wilderness doing that wilderness stuff.

This is the first solar panel we have ever purchased and are very pleased with its versatility. Wish I had gotten the larger one for the boat. Product was received much earlier than expected.

I use this solar charger to fill up my cache battery from Busch and Muller ( e-werk and cache battery combination). This means I can charge all my USB devices, which is pretty much all the gadgets I have. There is an issue with charging some devices that they need a constant voltage and current. A cache battery proves essential in these cases, and there are a whole bunch of options for this.

All the readings I've taken from this panel show it is very powerful in ideal conditions, indeed slightly more than the 6.5W. However when the sun hides behind a cloud the current drops off rapidly. Suprisingly the voltage stays quite high even in cloud. Given size and weight, and the fact it is just a fold away piece of fabric this is a fantastic bit of kit. When the sun is out it is as good as the mains (for mobile phone charging). When the sun is hiding a bit the panel its very tempremantal as to how powerful it will be. Suprise suprise a solar panel needs sun.

Personally I love it and have stopped using mains for charging gadgets. Though in darkest January I may rediscover my mains chargers.
